GOALS OF AN OS

The operating system acts as a bridge between the user applications/tasks and the underlying resources through OS a set of system functionalities and services.

The OS goals are perfections and corrections to achieve the following:

  • Resource Allocation and sharing of resources as per schedule
  • Facilitating easy implementation of application program with the given system hardware
  • Optimal process scheduling and context switching mechanism
  • Maximizing system performance to let different processes share the resources most efficiently with protection and without any security breach.
  • Provide process management, memory management , device management etc
  • Provide easy management and interfacing functions for network protocols and networking.
  • Providing portability of application in different hardware platform
  • Provide interoperability of application
